New and Noteworthy

Welcome to the 98th season of the Rhode Island Women’s Golf Association. The 2012 winter has just begun, but we are already thinking about spring and our upcoming golf season.
The RIWGA Board has been busy at work preparing the 2012 schedule which I am happy to report is complete, and ready to be published on the website along with 2012 “Online Registration”. Remember your Username is your GHIN# unless you previously changed it. Please take a minute and check the website for “Team Out” dates. “Team In” dates are included in the 2012 schedule.
In 2011 the game of golf continued to face some very significant economic challenges. Country Club membership declined nationally as did the total number of rounds played. Rhode Island was not exempt. The RIWGA is directly impacted by the overall decline in rounds and in country club memberships. Our organization feels the effects in our membership rolls and subsequent decline in our revenues. Expenses are fixed and unfortunately don’t decline in parity with a decline in membership, however many RIWGA board members and volunteers have given their time in an effort to keep your expenses to a minimum. On behalf of the RIWGA, I would like to encourage you to enjoy and support your association by playing in our events wherever they are. It is our membership that will make our organization succeed by playing events, no matter the venue. We must support our “Member Clubs”.
Lastly, let us remember friends who have had to make the difficult decision to resign from their private clubs, and invite them to register in our “Open” events. It would be great to have them join us once again.
I hope you all will continue to enjoy the wonderful “Game of Golf” and all its many joys.
